Balcony Plants

What You Need To Know About Balcony Plants

Balcony plants turn any ordinary, empty space into a soothing, lush, inviting and beautiful area.  If you are fortunate enough to actually have an appealing view from your balcony which seems to be the exception and not the rule, then position your balcony plants on the sides of the area.  This arrangement puts a nice frame around your view and gives the balcony an overall cozy feeling.  Choosing more mature plants in full bloom will give your space an instant facelift.

For a consistent appeal choose balcony plants like bleeding hearts that offer a burst of color at times when they're in bloom and then offer pleasant greenery when no flowers are present.  If your view from your balcony is less than desirable which is what most people seem to be blessed with then you can feel free to hang balcony plants straight across the area to create a beautiful wall of greenery or flowers.  Sitting out there on your laptop or reading a book is much more enjoyable experience now, captivated by the perfume instead of staring at the brick building across from you.

Bring Life To A Blank Wall

If your outside area has a blank wall then adding some hanging balcony plants will give the wall a more dimensional and sculpted appearance.  Additionally, it’s a perfect spot for a metal frame or tiered table to place your plants on.  The wall can be a wonderful display area.   A bright yellow daffodil is a nice spring surprise that will bring life to any balcony.

Plant Pots And Sculptures

A few oversized plant pots placed on the ground with extra large balcony plants can add a tropical feeling to your area.  A few sculptures can add an even more serene feel.  It is helpful to have a consistent theme in all of your pots and sculptures, whether that be all bright and fun colors, vintage style or aluminum is up to you.  If your pots and sculptures are too unmatched then you can end up with just a busy, unappealing look.

Don't Neglect Them

Just because your balcony plants are, well, on your balcony, does not mean that they are getting access to that rain coming down outside.  You must make a point to water them or you may as well be looking at that brick wall again instead of dead plants or yellowed leaves.  Also, you may want to consider feeding your balcony plants a bit of fertilizer once a month.

Accessorize Your Space

Adding a string of lights or hanging lanterns around your balcony plants liven up any space and can transform your area to a magical paradise at night.

If space allows, an outdoor rug and a small bistro table or tall cafe table can complete the look.  You can even add a balcony plant as a centerpiece to your table.

Flowers And Plants

So, what balcony plants should you choose?  Sunflowers, daisies, pansies and marigolds are all popular choices.  Lavender is wonderful for the smell that will linger and if you happen to bring red flowers to your balcony then they will attract hummingbirds.  Do you have a cat?  Grow catnip on your balcony.  It's easy to grow and your feline friend will love you for it.

If you do not want flowers for your balcony plants and you are looking for something more practical then you could choose to plant a garden.  There are plenty of vegetables and herbs that you can plant in containers on your balcony.

Whatever balcony plants you choose for your space, make your area a representation of you.  This is your personal paradise to create an envelope of beauty to wrap around you.
